A dashboard can display many measures while leaving users uncertain about what to do. Charts are useful when they support a decision, investigation, or action. Starting with the decision helps the team avoid adding visual complexity without operational value.
A practical approach
For each proposed view, identify its audience, question, and next action. Keep definitions and filters visible enough to interpret the result. Include a path from an aggregate measure to the work items responsible for it where the platform supports that workflow.
Try this with your team
Take one dashboard tile and write the decision it supports. If no one can name an action or investigation, reconsider whether the tile belongs on the main view.
